My last few weeks

Sorry I haven't blogged in a while Nathan was sick with a viral infection. It actually infected his eye so his eye was a bit swollen. The doctors prescribed some amoxicillin. God is good and he is all better now, Caleb didn't get it and everyone is doing fine.

Nathan is the only kid I know who still is happy when he is not feeling well. It's no fun seeing your kids in pain, especially having fevers and really not being able to do much other than pray and wait it out.

Day 5 - Kidsburg Park

The last day we came across the park that was right down the street from the place we stayed. It was a totally awesome park called kidsburg which had wooden playground equipment that resembled a pirate ship, castle, and fort. It is amazing how many things you can make out of wood and tires. This park was the grand poo bah of parks. There was a kid that kept following Nathan, somewhat a bully, who talked like a monster with a growling voice. Nice addition to Nathans vocabulary of speech, thanks kid. It was fun telling that story to our new bible study leaders when Nathan used that same voice on his first introduction. Oh the joys of parenthood. Nathan has a blast at this park, we wish we would have found it sooner. Oh well better late than never

Day 4 - The Casemate Musuem at Fort Monroe

If you don't already know, there is a TON of history around here. This is great, because I never really paid attention in my History class so it's like learning everything for the first time. You know, things like what is the Civil War, etc. (Sorry to disappoint you Larry).

Here is a quick history lesson for you: The Casemate Museum at Fort Monroe is the Largest stone fort ever built in the United States. Fort Monroe is the headquarters for the US army training and doctrine command. During the Civil War Fort Monroe was a union held bastion in the center of a Confederate State and help shelter thousand of slave refugees. The highlight is the cell where confederate prisoner Jefferson Davis was imprisoned. Shown above is a picture of Matt and Nathan in that cell. We also saw the house were General Lee was stationed.

The Underwater Tunnel

On the forth day we attempted to go to Virginia Beach for the day. This is the underwater tunnel in Norfolk, They actually have this tunnel under the ocean. Very fun going through, don't forget to honk your horn. Midway through our drive it started pouring down rain. Bummer dude. We decided to take a trip to the Casemate Museum at Fort Monroe instead.

Day 3 continued

After the Ferry dropped us off in Surry county we went to the Virginia State Park. It had a cool visitor center, beach front and a agriculture and farm museum. We saw all sorts of old farm equipment and tons of tractors. They even had some animals. Score! Matt thought it humorous that Nathan and I didn't read the sign regarding the animals. Oops. Good thing they were nice goats.

Day 3 - Ferry ride to Surry

We found out that there was a free ferry ride from Jamestown to Surry crossing the James river and away we went. You just drive your car onto a boat and away you go. It was a neat experience and the first time I have been on a ferry of this sort. The trip was about 15 minutes and Nathan loved being on the boat. You can see my view from the car. Pretty cool huh? Once the ferry started moving you could get out of your vehicles and go on the deck. I love this family picture Matt took of us on the deck. It doesn't get any better than this.
